Overview

Altadis U.S.A. is one of the nation’s leading makers of premium cigars, with a portfolio that includes Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, Trinidad, and Aging Room. We are seeking a Premium Territory Manager to own and grow our business across New England.

This is a fully field-based selling role, calling on premium tobacconists, distributors, and special accounts. Time is spent in stores with owners and buyers — selling the portfolio, executing brand standards, running events, and opening new doors.

The Territory Manager owns the territory end to end: building the call cycle, prospecting new business, executing retail programs and managing the territory budget. Performance is measured against clearly defined KPIs covering territory growth, focus brand distribution, and in-store event execution.

Responsibilities

Territory Ownership and Growth

  • Own and execute the territory sales plan, including account-level targets, customer relationships, delivery of revenue and market share growth.
  • Deliver against defined Key Performance Indicators for territory growth, focus brand distribution, and program execution.
  • Analyze local market conditions, competitive activity, account performance, and adjust the plan accordingly.
  • Provide regular, accurate reporting on territory performance, call activity, and market conditions.

Business Development

    • Actively hunt for new business. Continuously scan the market for new accounts, new points of distribution, and dormant accounts that can be reactivated.
    • Identify, research, and secure new customers through market analysis, industry resources, and direct prospecting.
    • Protect and grow the existing base by increasing share of business within current accounts.

Selling and Account Management

  • Solicit orders across an extensive product portfolio and work with accounts to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Present and introduce new brands, sizes, and packaging to all accounts, in line with company strategy.
  • Quote prices and credit terms to direct-buying customers
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, buyers, and channel retail contacts throughout the territory.

Retail Execution and Events

  • Execute merchandising and brand standards that drive product visibility, accessibility, and consumer engagement at retail.
  • Initiate, plan, and execute in-store retailer and consumer events that showcase our brands.
  • Organize, attend partnership and sampling events within the territory.

Planning and Administration

  • Build the call itinerary and maintain a consistent call cycle across assigned accounts.
  • Plan efficient travel routes that prioritize high-value accounts and maximize selling time in front of customers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of call activity, orders, and account information in company systems.
  • Manage the territory budget and expenses efficiently within policy

Qualifications

Required

  • Three or more years of field sales or account management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage KPIs and a territory budget to deliver profitable growth.
  • Strategic portfolio selling skills across a broad product range.
  • Disciplined merchandising and brand standards execution at retail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong work ethic, flexibility, and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Familiarity with CRM or order-entry systems.
  • Willingness to be in-market daily and to travel overnight approximately 50% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must reside within the assigned territory or be willing to relocate to it.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

Preferred

    • Experience in premium cigars, tobacco, beverage alcohol, or other luxury/specialty retail categories.
    • Experience selling through both independent retail and wholesale distributor channels.

Work Environment Conditions

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • The duties of this position are performed in part inside retail or other tobacco environments with smoke.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to humid conditions in retail humidors.
  • The employee may frequently lift or move up to 35 pounds.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary with a performance-based incentive plan.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Travel and business expense reimbursement.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Opportunity for advancement within the sales organization.
